You Need 5 Hobbies
I usually loathe winter because I don't have any winter hobbies. I mean okay, I have snowshoes and cross country skis but they're not really my favorite things to do.
But…last year I decided to give snowboarding a whirl. Literally, I was whirling all the way down that bunny hill.
I had a great time! Even though my tailbone felt bruised for months…
Fast forward to this winter, and I now love snowboarding and go usually once per week.
Winters can be hard in places like western New York where they last 6 months.
I've found that having a hobby or something to look forward to every week can make a world of difference.
Don't worry – it doesn't have to be anything big that requires buying gear and hurting yourself while freezing!
Back when I was in high school, my mom and I would go to a Zumba class one night every week. It was super fun for us and it was so nice to have that Zumba class to look forward to all winter long.
Is there something you love to do that you could commit even an hour to just once per week?
Honestly, if you love reading you could dedicate Wednesdays from 7 pm-8 pm as your reading time. No distractions. No phone. Just you and your book.

Don't overthink it. If you love to do something or want to try something new, set aside some time and go for it!
And don't say you don't have time. You only live once. I know, YOLO became a funny sort of thing but seriously – you only get to live ONE TIME.
Spare yourself some time from working, cleaning, or whatever else you're doing that you don't enjoy, and do the thing that will bring you joy instead.
Hope this helps make the winter a little more tolerable for you. I have an entirely new appreciation for snow now and look forward to the one day a week I get to snowboard.
My mental health is so much better all week when I have that one fun thing to look forward to. I hope it does the same for you.
