How to Do a Self-Audit and Choose Your Propaganda

I heard this quote on a podcast the other day and really loved it so I of course wanted to share it with you and break down the podcast episode!

I'm a huge fan of Chris and Lori Harder but more specifically, Chris’s podcast. Chris is a money and business coach who helps people learn how to make more money. His motto is “when good people make good money, they do great things” -- and I just love that.

On the podcast the other day, Chris was talking about how you can self-audit your life in order to reinforce your goals — and determine if the people, places, propaganda, and your self-gratitude practices are helping or hurting you.

The first thing he said to do is write a list of the 5-10 people you interact with the most. That includes people you've never met – like the host of a podcast that you listen to every day and consume their content daily. Then write a “yes” or “no” next to their name. Is that person reinforcing the life you want to live or accidentally sabotaging it?

Then, write a list of the 5-10 places you spend the most of your time. This is your home, your town, your work, your drive to work, the Starbucks down the street, the subway, the sidewalk by your house, etc. Which ones lift you up and which ones get you down?

Once you have your list of yeses and noes, you can then decide how you can spend less time with the noes and more time with the yeses. Or you can try out some new environments that may be more inspiring to you!

Propaganda is everywhere – in the news, on social media, podcasts, other people, etc. Take notice of it and decide which propaganda is lifting you up and which is slowing you down. This is where you get to choose your propaganda. Write down a few of them and put “yes” or “no” next to them based on how they make you feel.

Lastly, you can choose your self-gratitude. You have to choose to change this and feel more grateful. This connects with the previous three because if you are complaining about the noes, then you're not taking responsibility and are staying in the same no-boat as them. Take your emotions into your own hands and train yourself to react more positively in negative situations.

This is an ongoing practice but once you are aware of it, you can work on surrounding yourself with more positive people and places that bring you joy, and more time feeling grateful for the life you have instead of seeing the glass half empty.

I hope you find some motivation and inspiration from this podcast break down and the episode if you choose to listen! I'd encourage you to listen to a few of his episodes— there's a lot of short ones. For example, this episode I just referred to is only 8 minutes long!
